I have spent the last week or so working my way through Gabe Wyner’s Spanish pronunciation trainer.
It has really helped be get my tongue around the words and my ear around the sounds.
Already I am starting to hear things differently.
And when I try to pronounce a word, it sounds more Spanish than English. I know I still have a very long way to go but it feels like progress is being made.
So what is the next step?
Well I have already mentioned in previous posts that by learning the most frequently used words first, I will be following the 80/20 rule. Michel Thomas talked about this.
After getting the pronunciation right, the next step Gabe Wyner recommends is to start learning those frequently used words.
And of course he has created a list of the 625 most popular ones in English that you can download for free from here.
But I am learning Spanish?
Yes will that is true so this resource is a starting point and then all I need to do is get it translated.
However Gabe has already thought of that.
As part of his kickstarter campaign I mentioned before, he has created a series of word lists (including both European and Latin American Spanish versions). I invested in the European Spanish one that you can also buy from here.
They are only $10 each and that is a bargain in my mind given the value it holds and the time it will save you.
So my next step is to start working through those words and committing them to memory.
I now have to start creating my own cards in Anki.
